What Zelensky did today has got to be the greatest political strategic blunder that I’ve ever witnessed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great. I just can’t get over how profoundly stupid that was. Cocaine is a helluva drug.
My initial reaction to the Trump/Zelensky spat was based on the short clip. I've had a chance to watch the entire 53-minute press conference with Zelensky and Trump.
It's painful but I take back what I said earlier. Zelensky decided to attack Vance unnecessarily. He totally messed this up. Yes, Vance played to the gallery afterwards but he was also correct: litigating this stuff in front of the media was really dumb.
Really poor from Zelensky - I hope he can see sense, apologise and get a deal for his country. This was not smart.
I watched the entire press conference with Zelensky. There was 40 minutes of discussion up to the argument. Most people saw at most the last ten minutes. The whole video gives the proper context.
When I first watched the argument without the proper context, I thought it was possible that Trump and Vance ambushed Zelensky or were even trying to humiliate him. That's not what happened.
You had 40 minutes of calm conversation. Vance made a point that didn't attack Zelensky and wasn't even addressed to him, and Zelensky clearly started the argument.
In the first 40 minutes, Zelensky kept trying to go beyond what was negotiated in the deal. When Trump was asked a question, it was always "we'll see." Zelensky made blanket assertions that there would be no negotiating with Putin, and that Russia would pay for the war. When Trump said that it was a tragedy that people on both sides were dying, Zelensky interjected that the Russians were the invaders.
For his part, Trump made clear that the US would continue delivering military aid. All Zelensky had to do was remain calm for a few more minutes and they would've signed a deal.
The argument started when Trump pointed out that it would be hard to make a deal if you talk about Putin the way Zelensky does. Vance interjects to make the reasonable point that Biden called Putin names and that didn't get us anywhere.
The Zelensky/Trump dynamic was calm and stable. It was when Vance spoke that Zelensky started to interrogate him. Throughout the press conference to that point, everyone was making their arguments directly to the audience. Zelensky decided to challenge Vance and ask him hostile questions. He went back to his point that Putin never sticks to ceasefires, once again implying that negotiations are pointless. Why on earth would you do this? Then came the fight we all saw.
Zelensky was minutes away from being home free, and he would have had the deal and new commitments from the Trump administration. The point Vance made was directed against Biden and the media, taking them to task for speaking in moralistic terms. This offended Zelensky, and that began the argument.
I've been a fan of Zelensky up to this point, but this showed so much incompetence, if not emotional instability, that I don't see how he recovers from this. The relationship with the administration is broken. Ukraine should probably go with new leadership at this point.
This amazing and so refreshing. Our country is so corrupt that it’s actually weird to hear the President of the United States speak so forcefully for peace instead of war:
Paying people to dig holes and fill them back up increases GDP, as it is currently measured, even though that activity has no value.
Similarly, hiring an extreme number of regulators to vex entrepreneurs nominally increases GDP in the short term, even though it reduces output in the long term.
The flaw of Keynesianism is to see all government spending as “stimulus” even when its value destroying.
🔥 CHAMATH: “The crazy thing about the Democrats is that they are the most sophisticated liars … That entire ruse is now being undone. And all of this [DOGE] data … will consolidate the Democrats to a shell of their former self.”
America is an economic coiled spring. We should be growing at least 4% annually and ideally 6-8%+. Growth has been brutally suppressed since before I was born. But there is so much to build. And the payoff for all Americans will be incredible. 🇺🇸
One of the most important skills I see in successful (and good) people is to constantly reevaluate assumptions. They make predictions based on various inputs, some of them unknown, and reevaluate based on what they got right and wrong. They trust people not because they're always right--no one is--but because if you're constantly seeking the truth it's easy to identify those who are doing the same.
If you were confident that Donald J. Trump was going to lose, maybe you should question what else you "know" about him. Maybe the people who misled you about his electoral chances have misled you about other things.
In the words of Cormac McCarthy, "If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"
Leaders come and leaders go, but don’t change the rules of the game.
Censorship is changing the rules of the game.
Lawfare is changing the rules of the game.
Importing voters is changing the rules of the game.
Time to change the people who are changing the rules of the game.
🚨#BREAKING: Officials now report that a Secret Service agent opened fire on an armed suspect while Trump was golfing, during which President Trump was tackled by Secret Service agents on the fifth hole amid shots being fired at him. Police later discovered a backpack containing an AK-47 and a GoPro camera near Trump’s Florida golf course. The suspect fled in a car but was later detained in a neighboring county.

"In 2003, Hugo Chavez capped the price of food. Supermarkets couldn't charge people more than a certain amount. Started with basic foods, sugar, milk. Goal was to make food cheaper for Venezuelans. But there is a reason price controls are bad economics." https://t.co/dMi2hnARcf
I have questions about Kamala's economics education.
@KamalaHarris allegedly majored in Political Science & Economics at Howard University (c. 1982-1986), according to her Wikipedia entry.
Howard U. teaches the usual undergrad courses in economics (see link below); presumably they also did back in the 80s (although course numbers may have been different).
If Kamala took Econ-001 (Principles of Economics), she presumably learned that free markets generally work pretty well & socialism doesn't.
If she took Econ-170 (Intermediate Microeconomic theory), she presumably learned that 'price gouging' is unlikely to be common in competitive retail markets such as grocery stores.
If she took Econ-171 (Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory), she presumably learned that 'inflation' over the long term is caused mostly by the Fed increasing the money supply, such that each dollar is worth less -- not by 'corporate greed'.
If she took Econ-185 (Labor Economics), she presumably learned that increasing the minimum wage tends to cut employment & drive small businesses bankrupt.
So, does anybody have any record of what economics classes Kamala actually took, and what grades she got?
And if she did pass economics classes like this, why does she seem not to understand any of the basic principles of economics?

Tried watching V for Vendetta recently
its odd, because its directionally accurate on
the long term descent of the UK into a big brother police state
But the vision of pro white, fascist christian government is so laughably wrong
its become the literal opposite
