In recent years, there has been a surge of professional athletes and footballers publicly opening up about their inner struggles, about their psychological breakdowns -even during the apparently most successful times of their careers! Times when they have achieved success, conquered trophies, have all their basic material needs covered for life and enough financial resources to fulfil any materialistic desire one can think of. Yet suffering seems to always find a way to tarnish one’s existence and impede one from experiencing a consistent form of happiness.

These examples stand as further proof of the fact that what often stands in our way of experiencing an unwavering form of wellbeing is our own mind. Thats a timeless insight: a truth about human nature that has been identified and highlighted by many wise men and woman, spiritual philosophies, and religious doctrines across centuries.

As someone who has been, from a very early age, deeply passionate about philosophy, psychology, spirituality, neuroscience, biology, personal growth, and a variety of other subjects alongside football, I’ve dedicated a lot of time to exploring, studying, and deepening my understanding of human nature -particularly our most distinguishing and fascinating trait: the human mind.

I’ve always used football as a tool to better understand myself, the world, the nature of human interactions and relationships, the mechanics of the ego and the mind. My pursuit of wisdom has been aided by the works of a wide range of philosophers, intellectuals, spiritual teachers, scientists, as well as books, conversations, self examination, critical thinking and personal experiences.

Within the endless ocean of information we all navigate in today’s world, the Waking Up App (@wakingup) stood out to me as one of the most comprehensive sources of indispensable insight on the mind, the self, and consciousness.

These days mark 10 years since I left my home, FC Barcelona, where I spent an incredible decade of my professional life. From there, I went on to enjoy my passion for football around the world, and what an incredible journey it’s been!

Always learning, always improving, always building…Along the way, I’ve been blessed with a wonderful Wife and amazing three kids, who have always been by my side.

As my love for the game remains unshaken, I look forward to the next 10 years of my career with great excitement and ambition, starting this fresh chapter at my new home, FK Vardar.

Dundee United Family,

I am deeply grateful for having played for this club and for contributing to this extraordinary campaign.

It was an honor to captain this team during the run of games that placed us in the position from where we could achieve Top 6 and eventually finish 4th, ensuring European competition. A success beyond everyone’s expectations at the beginning of the season, but nothing less is what this club deserves.

The standards have been restored, and I will be looking forward with great excitement to see how the Club builds on top of this solid base towards an even brighter future.

A special thank you to my teammates for their humanity and companionship, to the Gaffer and Staff for their trust and contribution to my development; to all the legends within the club doing the unseen daily work for us from kitman to fisios to admins to guards to cleaning personnel; to the board members for the opportunity, and to all the fans for their incredible support across all season.
