Long before he landed in Tuscaloosa, Gene Stallings had a heart to give back. Thanks to his son, John Mark, Coach learned how rewarding it was to raise a child with special abilities. This led to a lifelong mission of helping the special needs community, wherever he went.

Faulkner University in Montgomery named its football field after John Mark Stallings who is the late son of former Alabama head football coach Gene Stallings. Now a statue honoring John Mark and his father sits outside Billy D. Hilyer stadium.
