What a great trip to Puumala, the namesake of PUUV (Orthohantavirus) in Lakeland, Finland? The ideal surroundings for myself and the other two new postdocs of the Ecke lab to settle in.

Just had a cool weekend, exploring the national park bang in the middle of some of my research sites. So many lemurs, reptiles and amphibians.

Day 11: THE END... for now. Wrapping up two rewarding weeks at the institute, where I had the pleasure of collaborating on diverse disease control projects. A special thanks to Dr. Narina and the team. (Iโd name everyone, but Madagascan names are too long for Twitter!)
Day 10: We had the opportunity to present to the researchers and PhD students at IPM... @parasitepixie showing work from her PhD, postdoc and the last two weeks at the institute on special genetics of rats and fleas. @UoABioSci@sandra_telfer@QUADRATdtp@EastbioDTP
Day 9: The main job of today was helping a student to investigate how environmental conditions and individual characteristics of rodents may influence the development of their skeletal structure... Also here's a spider... Darwin's bark spiderย (Caerostris darwini).
Day 8: spent the morning working with one of the PhD students at IPM on rodent movement ecology and control interventions. Also had a lovely lunch with a fellow disease ecologist visiting and looking at malaria in Madagascar... The pizza was ok, 5 out of 10.
Day 7: working from the guest house... Trying to get some of this PhD chapter finished before I submit in 2 months... Using track tile data to test the effectiveness of intensive control in the 12 villages of Madagascar as well as 12 villages in Tanzania.
Day six: we finished off our visit, collecting in data sheets, handing out flea traps, and discussing other trials of control... We also were treated to a waterfall... Which was amazing.
@UoABioSci@EastbioDTP@sandra_telfer
Day five: we had the pleasure of visiting 12 villages taking part, me and @parasitepixie definitely entertained the kids with our mere presence and "amazing" drawing skills. It was nice to interact and understand the system better. @UoABioSci@EastbioDTP@sandra_telfer
Day 3: finished predicting age from the weight of eyes lenses to help a student with a force of infection study and planning visits to field sites for Friday. PS. This a very big bamboo culm sheath
Just wrapped up today's work for students I met at Institut Pasteur de Madagascar. Enjoying the sunset in Antananarivo! and looking forward for tomorrow. @sandra_telfer@UoABioSci
Had such a great time talking about hierarchical spatial occupancy and abundance models at @Vogelwarte_scie last week in Switzerland with an amazing group of researchers! All workshop lectures and exercises are freely available on GitHub: https://t.co/e3iPUez3Ji.
Just finished a great week in Switzerland at the #spOccupancy#spAbundance workshop... @jeffdoser18 has such an infectious passion for statistics and is a great teacher... Really enjoyed my time thank you.
This week, @HelsinkiRats received a visit from @dornan_daniel, a PhD student from the UK. In today's #GCCmeeting, he presented his PhD research on spatial and seasonal population dynamics of invasive rodents in Madagascar ๐๐ฒ๐ฌ
What a great few days hosted by @HelsinkiRats. Thank you for being so welcoming and letting me tag along with some of your fieldwork... The mosquitoes definitely loved me.
