Does this mean that you should forgo the release? HELL NO! Always make sure you have one.

But if you forget or thought you’d never need one: always KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

Always know your rights. Never allow anyone to take away your agency when it comes to your art. Do not allow empty threats of them lawyering up to weight you down. You created this piece of art, and you alone have the rights to it non-commercially.

As I have said many time before, do not model nude in front of a camera unless you are 100% consenting to every future partner, boss, associate of any kind seeing it. The internet is forever. See: the “Barbara Streisand effect”

Do not let the model take advantage of your need for a subject for them to explore themselves. As wonderful as it is for people to learn to be comfortable with their body, they should not do so if they plan on wasting the photographer’s time by changing their mind later on.

A few years down the road, the model has new career prospects, a partner who doesn’t approve of the photos, etc. and asks you to remove the images.
