A business owner who runs a company with a turnover of $1 million a year, making $100k profit before tax, and paying 20 staff to do so. Using average numbers, the guy pays all his taxes, and declares the whole profit a dividend.

After paying his IMTT, dividend taxes, corporate taxes, he walks out the door with just over $60k after all these horrible taxes that disincentivize honest work. His capital has been at risk in a dangerous environment.

The government, during the same year, has earned over $250k from this poor sucker's business. Through import duties, PAYE, NSSA, Zimdef, Standards levy, VAT, IMTT and all the rest. Add in the dozen licenses the guy needs to open his front door, and it is very clear who the major beneficiary is, when our guy gets up to go to work.

A ratio of about 4 bucks to government for every dollar you can keep. And the things you buy with your leftover dollar have a tax component in them, so your dollar doesn't get a dollar's worth. So it's probably closer to 80 cents, or a 5:1 ratio.

You would think governments would treat us a little better.
