Oh no! 11% of registered democrats in Denver! Can't really be "pushed aside" when you're just taking up space not doing anything. Of all people the deputy director of ProgressNow Colorado, an org focused on youth voter turnout, should understand this.
A whole generation of Denver Democrats just got pushed aside for a previously unknown 29-year-old from New York City installed by outside actors.
I've never paid much attention to Denver politics because it's kind of a Byzantine cesspool.
But I guess that's fine. #copolitics

Palestinian goalkeeper Saleem Al-Ashqar was shot dead by Israeli forces in Gaza. Married just five months ago, he leaves behind a wife expecting their first child. The Palestinian Football Association says more than 1,000 Palestinian athletes have been killed since October 2023.
Diana DeGette is a co-sponsor of Medicare for All and arguably the most progressive of any member of the Colorado delegation. #copolitics
The attacks against her are necessarily hyperbolic because there's no good reason for the left to take her down. DeGette is a national DSA target because of the seat's demographics, not DeGette's record. It's their assessment that Denver can politically accommodate a more radical representative. The rest is a bunch of hot air designed to make DeGette a villain she is not and never was.
Not everyone in Congress has to be the main character. DeGette is nearing the natural end of her working career and does not deserve to be fragged from the left as a reward for her long and faithful service. There is a long list of qualified successors to DeGette who deserve to be part of the process when she makes her inevitable decision to retire.
Smart voters in CO-01 have every interest in a deliberative process to select their next representative after the DeGette era, and not have that choice foisted on them by outside actors. This is at least as important as any other factor for voters to consider.
In front of thousands of police chiefs, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston just wrote the blueprint:
"If we stop you for speeding, we don't ask your immigration status. When people who witness a crime are afraid to call the police, that makes our city LESS safe."
This is the model.
