It turns out that @qldhealth, like HEE, has been working quietly on guidance for employers to set scope.
Notably, PAs in Qld WILL be able to prescribe and order ionising radiation, despite being NOT being recognised by the Aus mega-regulator APHRA. 😱

It’s googling the menstrual cycle for me 🙄 What is happening in the UK with PAs is so terrifying. I feel so sorry for patients engaging with the health system.
Alasdair MacDonald selflessly contributed to @TheRACP and beyond through many years of dedicated and committed leadership. I was privileged to know and work with him. @dcam31@maguire_graeme@Brian_H_Wood @WingKristof @mleearcher
Wondering why it's hard to see a GP in Australia? Finally we have some numbers. From 2021-2022 we have 526 fewer GPs, 1100 fewer FTE GPs and over 4 million less consultations. Are we as a community happy with this? GP is becoming an endangered species
If the question was do we still need nurses/pharmacists/physios there would be justifiable outrage. Why are we allowing our professional identity to be degraded? #futuredr#ukmedtwitter
People often confuse medical knowledge with 'systems knowledge' - obviously if you rotate, you won't be au fait with how things locally work. This can give permanent staff a false sense of superiority - it's actually remarkable how fast FY1s pick things up given the rotation.
A young woman died as a result of a barndoor pulmonary embolism presentation missed on two occasions, under the impression that she had been seen by a GP.
This is not the standard we should comfortably walk past.

Thanks to the Western Sydney doctor who spoke up about this. Universities must not be used as soft power tools to promote a non-evidence based therapy that can cause patient harm https://t.co/ItkowbKMaW
@SOgnenis @Mark_Butler_MP@AlboMP It’s frustrating when innovations that can provide some benefit are used to obfuscate the causes and solutions to the real problem which is staring us in the face
@SOgnenis @Mark_Butler_MP@AlboMP Agree - in the setting of GP shortages urgent care clinics can be useful for urgent, e.g. infectious, presentations, as long as the regular GP is contacted.
They are not a solution for overcrowding though as these sorts of presentations are NOT what’s causing access block.
I am not a GP, nor married to one as some have suggested. No vested interests; I am just a really strong believer in the importance of primary care, and why we need to be honest about what role substitution really is, if that’s what is being proposed.

It’s reprehensible that @elonmusk is calling for the prosecution of Tony Fauci. I didn’t agree with some of his views, but no one had a more difficult job during C19. All public officials and public health practitioners on this platform should call this out.
