“The Thing” director John Carpenter praises Keith David as an “astonishing actor” while honoring him at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

Art is one thing, arthouse sophistication is another; auteur wars all over again: Hitchcock, Hawks, Sirk, Lubitsch aren't arthouse sophisticates, either, just (like Scorsese) some of the great artists of cinema, despite working in commercial systems and popular styles.
Even for a publication as self-aggrandizing as the NY Times establishing an entire department dedicated to declaring the canon of any given artistic medium, as if you have the sole influence over such a thing, just goes so far beyond the heights of arrogance it turns into insult.

Four favorite Japanese films:
Drive My Car (Ryusuke Hamaguchi, 2021)
High and Low (Akira Kurosawa, 1963)
Kiki’s Delivery Service (Hayao Miyazaki, 1989)
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (Nagisa Oshima, 1983)
Four favorite Japanese movies:
Himiko (Masahiro Shinoda, 1974)
High and Low (Akira Kurosawa, 1963)
An Autumn Afternoon (Yasujiro Ozu, 1962)
Cure (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, 1997)
Possibly the most anti-art statement to so far be uttered from the relentlessly impatient, and thus intellectually infantile, pro-AI crowd. Time is not the enemy of film — it is the key.
Nothing will make me lose respect for an established director more than using AI. Just pissing your legacy away to help the enemy. It’s pathetic. Scorsese and Soderbergh and anyone else who launders this destructive tech can piss off.
Underrated Persona 5 bit is the protagonist constantly having to eat curry because it’s the only dish on the menu at the cafe he lives at, and how this doesn’t seem to be an issue at all. “Hey good morning, what’s for breakfast. Ah, curry again? Splendid.”
Overjoyed to have written a booklet essay for @Film_Movement's Blu-ray of Neo Sora (@nope_sooope)'s exquisite, surprisingly hopeful HAPPYEND via @VinegarSyndrome/@ocndistro; many thanks to him and @eye_ko_tai_ko for their invaluable advice! https://t.co/7gKWlJF0JD
Genuine question, what did Marc Jacobs do to deserve that cover placement, I don’t know enough about the guy to have any idea why he’s so well respected in fashion circles
