They asked about her career. She talked about the children.
Deauville, Sept 10, 2026. Susan Sarandon, still losing roles for speaking out:
“Rather than talking about myself… today in the West Bank and Gaza, children are being killed while we speak here, and no one is talking about it. The rule of law has disintegrated. My situation is not the subject.”
They can take the contracts. They can’t take the truth.
Free Palestine.
Ahora mismo. Y el mundo mira para otro lado.
I will not defend the phenomenon of Israelis winning awards for films about the suffering of Palestine; It feels like a terrible insult, and I share that feeling.
But know this: there are Israelis who are pure-hearted and pained and insulted to the roots of their existence by the shame of the apartheid and genocide. They are a very small minority - a fraction of Israeli Jewish society - but they exist, and they are some of the best and most committed people you'll meet.
I know Rachel from some work we did together year ago, and I will vouch for her conscience with my life. And she is a phenomenally gifted and sensitive photographer.
Palestinians need to be the ones telling their story, and the world must hear them first and foremost. But some Israelis resist and hate the racism and privilege of Zionism like some white people hated apartheid is South Africa, and like some white Americans marched for black liberation.
It is not easy to accept, I know. But life is not always simple and clearcut this way. The small minority of Jews and Israelis who abhor Zionism are not you enemy, and not humanity's enemy; they are your partners.
InshaAllah, in years to come, justice will be done with Palestinian talent and ownership of the the Palestinians story as well, smack at the center of the world stage, the way it should be. I personally long for this day, and see it as inseparable from the liberation of Palestine and Palestinians
You can question testimonies. You can dispute identities. But you cannot erase my memory, my family’s memory, or what our own eyes saw.
On October 12, an Israeli airstrike killed 45 members of my family. More than half of them were children. Every single one of them was a civilian. None had any connection to armed groups or military activity.
We do not need anonymous testimony to know what happened. We are the witnesses.
We knew their names. We knew their faces. We loved them. We buried them.
You can reject a film.
You cannot reject the dead.
