I've decided to leave X having seen the damage being done this week to our communities, stoked by this platform and Elon Musk.
I wish you all well and hope to connect again IRL or elsewhere. I'll keep my account open for a couple of days in case anyone wants to DM before I go.
Can’t settle. So many of us on here have devoted our lives to improving our communities, am absolutely gutted to see the inevitable outcome of the hateful, divisive and selfish behaviour we have witnessed for years, powerless to do anything about.
I’m proud that people from nearly 200 countries work in our NHS.
I completely condemn this racist violence and stand with our staff and the communities they live and work in. Thank you to our emergency services who are working hard to keep everyone safe.
They set fire to a hotel knowing there were people inside. That is attempted murder. If you are still calling them protestors then you are an enabler and a collaborator with their thuggery.
I utterly condemn the far-right thuggery we have seen this weekend.
Be in no doubt: those who have participated in this violence will face the full force of the law.
Feel very powerless watching the appalling footage of the riots.
But wanted to add my voice to those giving unqualified support to anyone feeling scared or at risk. You are not alone.
Our diversity is one of the best things about our country. These thugs are one of the worst.
I've lived in the UK for 2 decades. I've built my life and dreams because of the kindness shown to me by the British people as a refugee.
The violence we are witnessing on our streets doesn't represent the true British values I've come to know. We should fight it with better understanding and building bridges, not with more violence.
But the racism and division spewed by certain politicians, individuals, and extreme media over migration are responsible for the hatred on our streets. It's time to root out such narratives.
That hotel in Rotherham is not housing illegal migrants. It is housing asylum seekers. People who have fled from danger hoping the UK would be a place of safety, and are now surrounded by murderous thugs trying to burn them alive. Get it right, journalists. Tell the truth.
It is devastating to see what is happening in the UK right now. So many people will be scared for their safety from racist thugs. It is not enough to say it's a minority or that they don't represent the rest. We need to be actively antiracist together.
It could be me in this car,my mum, siblings...
It is truly terrifying & I see fear in so many..
If you are an ally, NOW is the time2 speak up,2check on your colleagues & friends, 2shout loudly everywhere this does not represent you.
Believe me, we need to hear it...
I hope the BBC reflect on how their normalisation of Farage during the election helped to enable this, and I hope that Ofcom reflect on how their utter failure to effectively regulate GB News has helped to further fuel the situation.
My thoughts are with all my colleagues and friends on this platform who are feeling vulnerable as a result of the horrific racist violence in the UK this weekend.
These people don't represent the majority and we will keep fighting for safety, respect and inclusion for all.
