Attending the @adc_ict annual conference with a great opening panel with Kate Gibson, @iain_edwards, Joe Holmes, Annie O’Reilly and Mylene Dimitri on everything that happened this year in ICL. A good way to spend a Saturday morning.
It was an honour and a privilege to deliver this week the final statement in the Said case at the @IntlCrimCourt .
An important moment for international justice and affected communities, where the voice of the Defense and Mr. Said can be heard last.

Last night, 9BR Chambers were recognised as International Law Set of the Year.
The win comes 25 years after Steven Kay KC (@StevenKay_QC) and Gillian Higgins (@gillianhiggins) developed a specialist international law chambers that is now recognised as the market leader.
Steven and Gillian accepted the award on behalf of our entire international team.
Congratulations to all on this incredible achievement!

@dovjacobs, of SILC, and @joshhkernn file Amicus Brief at the @IntlCrimCourt on behalf of the @ijl_jewish Regarding the ICC's Prosecutor’s Request to Issue Arrest Warrants for Israeli Leaders
https://t.co/ZsYGulH4pv
Joshua Kern (@joshhkernn) and Dov Jacobs (@dovjacobs), instructed by the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (@ijl_jewish), submit amicus curiae Brief Regarding the ICC's Prosecutor’s Request to Issue Arrest Warrants for Israeli Leaders
The IJL raises two main concerns:
(1) The arrest warrant requests cannot be considered under the scope of the “situation in Palestine” .
The requests relate to events that occurred after the investigation was opened (March 2021) and arise from a fundamentally different factual context triggered by the attacks committed by Hamas on Israeli territory on 7 October 2023.
(2) Any argued Palestinian capacity to delegate the exercise of criminal jurisdiction to the ICC does not currently enable the Court to exercise jurisdiction over Israelis.
These concerns highlight significant legal and procedural challenges to the current ICC proceedings in the Palestine situation.

I am honoured to have been invited to share some thoughts on the lessons to be learned from international tribunals to enhance the effectiveness of the judicial process in Ukraine on 17 July, international justice day.
⚖️ The Center for Civil Liberties welcomes lawyers, international law experts, representatives of civil society organizations, and state institutions to a series of events that will take place during the Ukrainian International Criminal Justice Week.

93 @IntlCrimCourt States sign obvious and uncontroversial statement supporting ICC (fight against impunity, need for cooperation, independence of the court, etc.) which raises the question of why 31 States did not sign it...

International law folks:
I'm updating my Law of War syllabus for the Fall (use of force and IHL, some ICL & human rights).
Please share the best / your favorite papers from the last 2-3 years below.
Articles, book chapters, blog posts welcome.
Many thanks!
Thank you @NurembergAcadem for bringing us together for a lively discussion on key issues relating to the practice of the @IntlCrimCourt, from all perspectives (Chambers, Defense, Prosecution and Registry). Looking forward to continue this important dialogue in the future.
The Academy organised a pivotal workshop on the length of #ICC proceedings @HumanityHub, discussing issues such as charge documents & evidence disclosure that delay the proceedings at the Court. Recommendations for efficiency improvements were shared.
In advance of @CIJ_ICJ advisory proceedings starting today, @dovjacobs and @joshhkernn from @9BRi, instructed by @ijl_jewish, submitted statement to the ICJ on issues pertaining to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

A great volume edited by @carstenstahn and @RBragaSilva with a stellar cast of contributors reflecting on @IntlCrimCourt past, present and future.
It was a great pleasure to contribute a chapter on the importance of the rights of the Defense, co-authored with Jennifer Naouri.
Very happy to see new volume on ICC in Third Decade out in paperback, combining diverse perspectives, tracing living histories, and thinking ahead on micro and macro challenges, so grateful to brilliant contributors & @RBragaSilva for making it happen!

@EbrightYon it is interesting to point out that this trend is due to the increased place of HR rights discourse in public discourse to denounce certain conducts... it can't be that lawyers can talk when they conclude that there are HR violations, but not ok when they don't...
I respect ur feeling, but you’re basically ashamed of lawyers doing their job. i’m wondering how this is not an indictment of the legal profession as a whole, int’l or otherwise, bc many situations might trigger outrage that would justifiy not involving lawyers, according to you.
Increasingly, I’m intensely disliking international lawyers. Humans are being slaughtered while politicians/governments cheer on, and some of us think it’s the appropriate time to write sanctimonious opinion pieces quibbling over subtle points of international law. Shame on us 😡
@EbrightYon I get your point of course, but if there is a problem, it is not with the lawyers themselves, but exactly the one you identify: that too much importance might be given to the importance of legal determinations in the public discourse.
