A lot of outlets have been telling the story of Tony Bennett marching with MLK.
But have you ever heard the story about how “wokeness,” DEI, Jesus, an actual anti-racist, 2 church choirs & 1 of the greatest dance moves of all time got Tony Bennett into show biz?
A thread
Useful strategies for faculty leaders from the ousted President of Florida’s New College, the epicenter of a national “capture” of higher education. https://t.co/WimXRpgPCb
Today will be extra fun because the same Court that said the Constitution prohibits private colleges from considering race as a factor in admissions is going to say that private bakeries can consider sexual orientation as a factor in who they make cakes for
"The fight continues, but it must be waged differently—with more courage to confront our legacies head on... and to understand that colorblind rhetoric will do nothing to solve color-bound problems." https://t.co/3bR2mcM5Wm
I am also concerned for (hear me out) lower/working-class *whites, who also lack the kinds of institutional support (read: LEGACY ADMITS) that wealthier whites have. Poorer whites are being duped into supporting an ideology that doesn't support them.
Before you begin your thinkpiece, the Supreme Court DID NOT strike down Affirmative Action
Admission preferences for legacies, donors, employee families and special recommendations are still allowed
The Court struck down Affirmative Action For everyone except WHITE PEOPLE
There’s alot of confusion on Twitter so let us be clear:
Supreme Court has struck down Biden’s student loan forgiveness program.
There were two student debt cases, and the court said plaintiffs in one had no standing.
But it held that Missouri did.
But here's the thing: we (marginalized groups) are too smart. We refuse to be pitted against each other. I support my Asian students, colleagues, and friends and welcome their voices in this ongoing conversation.
Fwiw it *is problematic that many of the convos involving the court’s #AffirmativeAction decision don’t discuss Asian students, but let’s be clear: this case was never about Asians. They tried with white men (Bakke), white women (Bollinger & Fisher), so they turned to Asians.
My Asian students regularly lament the pressures of the "model minority" trope. They feel it from all sides: society, the institution, instructors, and family. Not speaking FOR them, just reporting from office hours. I fail to see how this decision helps them from that pov.
Okay, let’s get into it.
15% of white top decile students are admitted to Harvard, and 56% of black top decile performers are. This is not unfair.
If you’re outraged at Affirmative Action because of this, it’s likely a misunderstanding of the data/statistics.
I’ll explain.
@GregAbbott_TX@GregAbbott_TX Can you explain to me how federal indictments work? Explain it to me like I am a child and you are a lawyer, former state supreme court justice, and someone who served as Texas attorney general for 13 years before becoming governor.
Here are our statements on the passage of Senate Bill 17, the anti-Diversity Equity & Inclusion bill, & Senate Bill 18, the tenure bill, by the Texas House & Senate. These bills, which we strongly opposed, were priorities for the Governor and have been sent up for his signature. 1/

Take it from the Houston Chronicle, @DanPatrickTX. Sticking it to the libs isn’t worth it. Destroying tenure undermines liberal and conservative faculty alike. #SB18#TxLege

“A state government that sees drag queens, tenured professors and diversity programs as threats — because alternative viewpoints are dangerous! — yet access to military-grade weaponry remains unfettered and shattered bodies from mass shootings pile up.”
