and i think another important thing is that, by the time you’re a couple of years into your career, it can’t just feel like you’re speaking to people as a singer. i think you also need to know how to connect with your fans on a more human level.

and with doyoung, i really got the sense that he was trying to have that kind of conversation with his fans through these solo albums. which is why i find his albums kind of interesting in a way they’re really talkative. he has so much he wants to say.

and because he trusts that his fans will listen and take it all in, he just pours everything he wants to say into the music.

that’s actually one of the reasons i loved album ‘youth’ so much. i even picked it as one of my top five albums of that year. when i thought about whether there had ever really been a solo album from an idol quite like this before, i honestly couldn’t think of one. it left such a strong impression on me that i rated it very highly at the time.

👤 i think it’s partly just having really good instincts, but i also see it as a sign that he’s a very considerate person. because to be able to step in and answer like that, you have to understand what’s going on with all the other members too.

seeing things like that made me think, “if i were an idol, i’d want to be someone like doyoung.” that memory of him left such a good impression on me, and i sometimes wonder if that’s part of why i ended up becoming so fond of this team.

and even when his solo album eventually came out, it didn’t disappoint me at all. i think because he was already someone who worked that hard even back then, when the time finally came for him to release an album of his own, he didn’t let the opportunity to truly shine go to waste.

i don’t even know how many times writer yoon kyung has brought up this whole “growth character” thing while doing this show, but doyoung really is someone who fits that description perfectly, right?

doyoung dropped by the practice room while he was on leave. he said that time seriously goes by so slowly in the military so taeyong started teasing him, asking, “what do you even do in the army?”

they were bickering back and forth and doyoung said, “i watch the clock.” 😭😭😭

taeyong also told him that while he was at it, he should watch the choreography and memorise it in advance.

👤 i first met nct 127 during the cherry bomb showcase. that was quite a long time ago, wasn’t it? there weren’t that many reporters there back then, and i guess i was one of them. wow, suddenly i’m starting to feel a little proud of myself. i suppose this is what being a reporter is all about.

because there weren’t many of us, i was able to speak with them a little more closely. and i remember thinking, “if i ever became an idol, i’d want to be an idol like doyoung.”

to explain what i mean, whenever the other members were holding the mic and speaking, he was constantly paying attention and monitoring everything. he would stay alert, listen carefully, and when a question came in, if it seemed like another member was too nervous to answer properly, he knew how to step in and handle the situation without making it awkward.

there’s one particular experience i’ve always wanted to talk about. i asked one of the other members a question, but he got really nervous. his hands were even shaking a little, and then he started lightly tapping doyoung beside him.

doyoung immediately picked up the mic and began answering, smoothly filling in the moment. and watching that, i remember thinking, “wow, i’m glad this team has doyoung.”

knowing exactly when you need to speak up and never missing that moment is really important.
