In addition to the concern over that point is what appears to be an obtuse refusal to acknowledge the actual argument being made.

The repeated attempts to misrepresent or reframe this suggests either an inability to properly reason or the deliberate avoidance of accountability.

And the more people obfuscate the issue being addressed the more people conclude that rational debate is impossible.

The more people become convinced of this, the easier it becomes for people to break down into purely tribal politics.
