God of justice, Father of truth, who guide creation in wisdom and goodness to fulfillment in Christ your Son, open our hearts to the truth of his Gospel, that your peace may rule in our hearts and your justice guide our lives. - Collect Prayer from the Mass for Independence Day
I have witnessed and experienced countless examples where those who have the Day of Judgment before their eyes act very differently—in matters large and small—from those who don’t.
“In all you do, remember the end of your life, and then you will never sin” (Sirach 7:36).
Today we celebrate the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, forerunner of our Lord whose famous words have enriched the Church for millennia: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand", "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world”, and "He must increase; I must decrease". He is also the patron saint of Québec.
St. John the Baptist, pray for us!

“Do not be afraid… you are worth more than many sparrows.” — Matthew 10:31
In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks directly to our fears. He reminds us that we are known, loved, and held in the care of the Father, all the way down to the smallest detail of our lives.
Because of this, we can live with courage, speaking truth and being a witness to our faith without fear.
🙏 Lord, quiet our fears, strengthen our trust in Your care, and give us courage to stand for You each day.
Many people pray, but do not fast.
Fewer fast, but do not give alms.
We must do all three to be fit athletes (root of “ascetic”) of Christ:
Pray + Fast + Give Alms
The Church’s entire tradition and history teach that these are non-negotiable weapons of the spiritual life.
O eternal Trinity, You are a deep sea in which the more I seek the more I find, and the more I find, the more I seek to know You.
-St. Catherine of Siena
“Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace.”

“When efficiency becomes the ultimate measure of value, human beings are tempted to see themselves as a project to be optimized rather than as persons called to relationship and communion.” —Pope Leo XIV
Memorial Day began as Decoration Day, a day to honor soldiers who died in the American Civil War, typically by placing flowers on their graves.
The date is thought to have been chosen because flowers would be in bloom across the U.S.
“We must lovingly safeguard the grandeur of humanity bestowed upon us and revealed in its fullness in Christ, the splendor of which no machine can ever replace.” —Pope Leo XIV
ST. AUGUSTINE’S PENTECOST WARNING AND EXHORTATION
“Christian men and women are Catholics while they are alive in the Body [of the Church]. Cut off, they have become heretics. The Spirit doesn’t follow the amputated part.
So if you wish to be alive with the Holy Spirit, hold on to loving-kindness, love truthfulness, long for oneness, that you may attain to everlastingness.
Amen.”
St. Augustine, Sermon 267: On the Day of Pentecost (§4) (AD 412)
