Happy birthday, Sylvia! Her raw and candid works were among the first of the confessional poetry genre and are still celebrated 56 years after her death. “I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead; I lift my eyes and all is born again.”
Flix from today’s meeting! We discussed Allen Ginsberg’s poem, “Europe! Europe!” in which he displays his frenzied thoughts on politics, love and the state of the world through descriptive details.
Happy birthday, Oscar Wilde! (Conveniently not long after coming out day). We celebrate Wilde not only for his insightful & descriptive works, but for his unjust imprisonment due to his suspected homosexuality in a time where anything of the sort was seen as immoral.
@arhi39@ncte Our club @dppensociety has fishbowls (on various topics), creates blackout poetry, analyzes short works, hosts read-alouds, workshops college essays, reviews episodes and films... The students are responsible for our activities (to ensure our meetings never feel like a class).
Successful viewing of 1984, the play! We will hold a discussion debriefing what we saw for members that didn’t get to come after school. (Manic pictures have the most charisma okay..)
Harket's Law: When "Take On Me" by A-ha is played, the number of people who can hear it is DIRECTLY proportional to the probability that the highest note in the chorus will be sung out of tune.
