The DPP strongly condemns Beijing’s obstruction of President Lai’s state visit to Eswatini. Coercing third-party nations to revoke flight clearances is an unaceptable violation of international norms. The DPP calls on all parties to stand united. We stand firmly behind our diplomatic and national security teams. No amount of coercion will stop Taiwan from engaging with the world.

China’s coercive actions undermine the status quo, once again exposing the risks authoritarian regimes pose to the international order. Ahead of my visit to Eswatini, several countries along our flight route abruptly revoked overflight clearance under pressure from China. 1/2

While KMT politicians seek favors in Beijing, friends of Taiwan in the US Congress are standing up for Taiwan’s defense. 🛡️

Many thanks to the bipartisan group of Senators Shaheen, Curtis, Tillis and Rosen for urging the passage of our special defense budget. Accelerating domestic production of drones and missile systems is critical for deterrence. It is time for the opposition to stop playing politics with our safety and work together to protect our democracy.

Preparedness is vital to security. At today’s Whole-of-Society Defense Resilience Committee meeting, we advanced plans to build regional disaster relief corridors and enhance our Central Joint Emergency Operation Center to boost readiness across #Taiwan.
