@jeffvandermeer Mine arrived today, along with the new editions of the others. Thanks so much for being so awesome and kind to sign all these preorders! Excited to start Absolution the moment I complete my reread of the first three.
@AADowd I love when a piece makes me immediately want to revisit something I haven’t seen in years to appreciate it with renewed perspective. As always, your thoughtful and beautiful writing is a joy. Thanks for this one.
Now’s your chance, selfie edition: if you’ve ever wanted a cameo in a music video, come be in mine!
I just need a 10-second selfie video of you singing (or lip syncing) to a snippet of music, uploaded to my Dropbox by TOMORROW night.

New paper online! We used stable isotopes to trace what types of nitrogen cyanobacteria use during the Lake Erie harmful algal bloom, and where that nitrogen may have come from. @aslo_org@dave_hambright

@NYCmicrobes@aslo_org@dave_hambright Thanks so much, Michael! We're definitely dual-nutrient control advocates all the way, but as Mark mentioned the decades-long emphasis on P-only control doesn't tell the whole story (and may actually exacerbate certain bloom issues, e.g.; https://t.co/3C5CiRtpZm)
So excited to have this paper out! Within-system dynamics matter: internal N recycling helps non-N fixing, toxic cyanoHABs persist in western Lake Erie following depletion of water column N. It’s time to start managing N. @aslo_org@dave_hambright

This was a many-year effort that formed the backbone of my PhD. Grateful for wonderful mentors, collaborators, and coauthors @NewellLab, @MJMcNCycle, @ShlynnBo, and twitter-less Justin Myers. Endless thanks to @NOAA_GLERL, @CIGLR_UM, and @ohioseagrant for their support. 2/

Got rejected for a competitive postdoc fellowship this morning. Knew I probably wasn't the ideal candidate, so while disappointed I'm not upset. But I *am* infuriated by this reviewer comment: “I think your choice of an R2 University for a post-doc was not a good fit.” 1/
While “choice of institution” is within this (and many) fellowship and funding evaluation criteria, fit should be predicated on the documented resources available and not on any assumption conveyed by externally determined status. In the absence of that, if proposing work ... 10/
