Many mocked me when I said it last year, but I still believe it was true. And now I feel a little bit of “I told you so”…

Red Bull didn’t need to try and determine which RB driver was quickest, or which of their youngsters they could promote. Daniel Ricciardo was the correct choice for the second Red Bull seat simply because of the dynamics at play, and his ability to handle a nervous car most similarly suited to Max’s driving style in his past experience within the team.

That seat is built for a veteran. Not somebody they hope will be quick like Lawson, not even Tsunoda. Nobody cares who is faster in an RB - they need someone they know can drive a Red Bull alongside Max and bank some points.

There was only 1 person on the payroll who checked that box, and they should’ve given him a shot at it.
