@sebas_arruarana Please advocate for internal j1 stamping . Traveling while on j1 visa is such a hassle . With only 1m in annual travel allowances its always not easy travelling outside usa . Definitely visiting fam and home country should be easy . Just one yr is not good

@thapagk Gagan Dai, I've long admired Nepali Congress for its commitment to democracy, but its credibility suffered when it allied with the Maoists. This was not only irresponsible but also forced people to vote for terrorists, which is shameful. Badar lai dhunga hane kera fyaldaina.

Shame! Shame!! @CricketNep
Working in medicine is not something that people should want to do for the glamour. Job security, sure. Money is not always guaranteed to be great. You may love what you do but you might have days where you hate your life and your decisions.

@Doctorhouse90Dr In New York, parking varies from costly on busy streets to free in less crowded areas, provided they clear for weekly road sweeping. Let people have choice than limitations, fix higher rates perhaps for people who want to park in newroad vs oldbuspark. Balance chaiyeo khas ...

Palm oil - lots of controversies and videos like these do not help improve our understading of what is right or wrong. This happens when people who create videos on health and medicine have absolutely no training in either and are engagement farmers feeding confirmation biases for monetization.
Why is palm oil used in processed foods?
It has excellent oxidative stability, meaning it resists spoilage and maintains its quality over time.
Claims in video:
⏸️Palm oil causes heart disease and heart attacks because it has 49% saturated fats.
👇
Indians daily use of coconut oil and ghee are much higher than palm oil. Most use only seed oils.
Coconut oil - 90% saturated fat
Ghee - 50% saturated fat
Absolutely no mention about these
Seed oils - 6% - 25% depending on seed used - and people claim seed oils are "unhealthy."
⏸️Palm oil causes heart disease and heart attacks
👇
Systematic review of palm oil consumption and the risk of cardiovascular disease: https://t.co/oyOE50ETKG
"The present review could not establish strong evidence for or against palm oil consumption relating to cardiovascular disease risk and cardiovascular disease-specific mortality."
Hitchen's Razor: What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.
Some facts:
If we increase taxation for palm oil and replace it with other oils in India with regards to food sources employing palm oil, then the effect on heart disease related deaths is only modest but not significant, the slight benefit is mostly for male population and in urban regions - not across all population and ages. However, such high taxation and replacement also increases food insecurity potentially leading to 16,000 deaths - https://t.co/SVoagn0fV8
What is food insecurity: 'when people do not have adequate physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious foods that meet their dietary needs and preferences for an active and healthy life'
Complete avoidance of palm oil or extreme limiting?
The American Heart Association recommends aiming for a dietary pattern that achieves 5% to 6% of calories from saturated fat. For example, if you need about 2,000 calories a day, no more than 120 of them should come from saturated fat. That’s about 13 grams of saturated fat per day.
Oil palm is something of a wonder crop. It yields 4-10 times more oil per hectare than other sources of vegetable oil such as soybeans or coconut palms. The plant accounts for just 9% of the 322 million hectares of land used to produce oil crops globally, yet it produces 36% of the oil. This makes it an efficient and profitable use of land. The economic value of palm oil translates into jobs, infrastructure and tax revenues.
Real issue: Palm oil production has been associated with corruption, forced evictions and land-grabbing. Much of the deforestation has been in Indonesia and Malaysia, destroying the habitat of rare species such as orangutans, tigers, rhinos and elephants.
BUT things are changing and this is could be taken care of using special strategies.
See here: https://t.co/CqUJ7HkLyF and here: https://t.co/yj52XG5oWN
And new waste management methods are improving sustainable palm oil cultivation and waste utilization: https://t.co/zyyCGHc1Wb
Still a problem: development of new canals and illegal plantations and illegal palm oil from the wildlife reserves. This is a global issue, yes and need strict policy changes followed across the globe.
Shouldn’t we just ban palm oil?
No. That could have disastrous effects. It would negatively affect the livelihoods of millions of people, and producing alternative oils would require even more farming land. If the world’s entire supply of vegetable oils came from palm oil, we’d need 77 million hectares of land. If it came solely from sunflower oil, on the other hand, we’d need more than four times the amount of land.
See this really good report: https://t.co/JGPBYFkt0E
Bottomline: It is not the palm oil alone. It is the saturated fats from any sources beyond recommended intake. It is the added sugars. It is the lack of physical activity and mostly sedentary lives among Indians, the rising incidence of diabetes, increase in alcohol use and smoking - all of which is contributing to heart disease risk.
Look beyond palm oil fear mongering.
