Implications: Chinese followers were more active co-creators of online dialogue. Social media pros should nurture dialogue. Chinese society is “high-context,” requires more communication. Western societies require more detail. Use authentic, vernacular, grassroots content.

Chinese audiences engaged more and with different content. Overall, the most engaging posts offered euphoric stress, escape and aesthetic pleasure. Graphics and video were the most engaging content features across cultures.
