Opening of the first Center for Addiction and Psychotherapy in Iraq & Kurdistan – at the University of Duhok (IPP).

Addiction is often taboo and hidden – yet it affects not only individuals but families and society as a whole. With this center, we break the silence with science, professionalism & cultural sensitivity.

Ich danke allen von Herzen, die mir zur Verleihung des Bundesverdienstkreuzes gratuliert haben. Dieser Tag war voller Emotionen – ein Moment der Dankbarkeit, der Demut und auch der Nachdenklichkeit.
Traumata endet nicht mit dem letzten Schuss eines Krieges, sondern über Generationen hinweg Spuren hinterlassen. Doch genauso glaube ich daran, dass Heilung möglich ist – durch Gemeinschaft, durch Unterstützung und durch den festen Glauben an eine bessere Zukunft.
Diese Auszeichnung gehört all jenen, die sich täglich für Menschlichkeit, Gerechtigkeit und Frieden einsetzen. Wir müssen Brücken bauen, Türen öffnen und gemeinsam für eine gerechtere Welt eintreten.
Ich danke vor allem meiner Frau @MonaKizilhan, die diese Ehrung mehr verdient und ohne Sie ein Teil von mir fehlen würde.

After initiating two training programs in Turkey for psychiatrists, psychologist and social workers working with survivors of the earthquakes in Turkey, we are now beginning a week of training with experts in Syria. Additional in person and online training sessions will follow.

Today in Khaparto Camp with my team who working with traumatized Yazidi refugee. They are working incredible, professional and so kind and human empathy with their patients. Thank you all so much and @dr_bohar78 as vice-dean and great psychiatrist!
