When uncertainty rises, leadership matters more.
Healthcare leaders face difficult choices. Every decision touches people—patients, families, and the teams who care for them.
Lead with clarity. Listen with humility. Make hard decisions with courage and compassion.
You may not control the external environment, but your actions can give people direction, build trust, and keep purpose alive.
Be the leader people can count on when the path ahead is unclear.

Your team experiences your leadership through the decisions you make.
Leadership becomes credible when people can connect what they told you with what you did next.
For healthcare executives, that creates three questions worth reflecting on:
• What are your teams repeatedly telling you?
• What decision is within your influence?
• How will you show them that their input mattered?
What is one change you’ve made because you listened to your team?

Happy October!
As we enter the final quarter of 2026, leaders across healthcare and STEM have an opportunity to do more than finish the year — we can finish it intentionally.
Q4 often brings competing pressures: year-end targets, budgets, workforce demands, strategic planning, and the push to close initiatives before the calendar turns.
But strong leadership in the final quarter isn’t simply about doing more.
It’s about creating clarity around what matters most.
For executives and leaders, consider these five questions as you enter Q4:
1. What truly needs to be accomplished before year-end?
Separate the critical priorities from the work that can wait.
2. Where does your team need greater clarity?
People perform better when they understand not only what matters, but why it matters.
3. What conversations have you been postponing?
A difficult conversation in October rarely becomes easier in December.
4. Who on your team needs recognition, development, or support?
Finishing strong includes investing in the people who made the year possible.
5. What do you want to carry into 2027 — and what should stay behind?
Not every process, meeting, priority, or leadership habit deserves another year.
For leaders in healthcare and STEM, the demands are particularly complex. Innovation, operational performance, workforce challenges, patient and customer expectations, and rapid technological change are all competing for leadership attention.
You cannot give everything equal attention.
The strongest leaders create focus.
As Q4 begins, ask yourself:
If my team could accomplish only three meaningful things before December 31, what would they be?
Define them.
Communicate with them.
Remove barriers.
Support your people.
And finish 2026 with purpose

Healthcare doesn’t need leaders who simply push harder.
It needs leaders who help people remember why their work matters.
When teams are stretched, change is constant, and expectations keep rising, motivation rarely comes from another initiative or another meeting.
It comes from leadership.
Leaders create motivation when they:
• Connect daily work to a meaningful purpose
• Recognize progress—not just performance gaps
• Create clarity when uncertainty is high
• Make people feel heard, valued, and trusted
• Model the energy and accountability they expect from others
In healthcare, leadership isn’t only about achieving results. It’s about creating an environment where people still want to contribute their best.
How are you keeping your team motivated right now?

What does it mean to be a leader in healthcare today?
It’s no longer enough to simply manage through complexity. Great leaders create clarity within it.
A recent ACHE article, The Complexity Challenge, makes an important distinction: healthcare will always carry inherent complexity, but organizations also create complexity through layers of processes, approvals, reporting and practices that may no longer serve their original purpose.
That creates an important leadership question:
What can we simplify so our people can focus on what matters most?
For today’s healthcare leaders, I believe leadership increasingly means:
• Listening closely to the people doing the work
• Creating clarity when the path forward isn’t obvious
• Removing barriers rather than adding another process
• Protecting the capacity and well-being of our teams
• Staying anchored to the mission while adapting to change
As an executive coach, I often find that leadership growth isn't about adding another competency. Sometimes, it’s about helping leaders' step back, identify what is creating unnecessary friction, and make the environment around them clearer.
In a healthcare environment defined by constant change, clarity may be one of the most valuable things a leader can give their team.
What is one thing you could simplify for your team this week?

Healthcare leadership has never been simple—but the expectations placed on leaders today continue to expand.
A recent American College of Healthcare Executives article, “Leadership Readiness Has Become a Financial Strategy,” highlights an important shift: developing leaders is no longer simply a leadership-development initiative. It has become an organizational imperative.
Healthcare executives are being asked to strengthen financial performance, engage an increasingly complex workforce, partner effectively with physicians, improve quality, and lead transformation—often simultaneously.
This is where I believe executive coaching can make a meaningful difference.
Coaching creates intentional space for leaders to step outside the urgency and ask:
What does my organization need from me at this stage of my leadership?
It allows leaders to strengthen self-awareness, challenge assumptions, navigate difficult conversations, and translate insight into action around the real challenges they are facing.
In healthcare, we invest heavily in preparing for operational and clinical risk. Perhaps we should be just as intentional about preparing the people who are leading through it.
Leadership readiness matters.

Healthcare leaders are navigating a lot right now.
A recent American Hospital Association report highlights the pressures facing healthcare organizations - from rising demand and affordability concerns to increasing patient complexity and regulatory change.
But one thing really stood out to me: leaders are being challenged to move beyond simply reacting to change and start intentionally redesigning what comes next.
As an executive coach, I see a similar opportunity with leaders themselves.
Sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is create space to step out of the day-to-day, think differently, and ask:
“How do I need to lead differently for what comes next?”
That’s a conversation worth having.

Healthcare leaders carry a lot - people, performance, change, and the responsibility of making decisions that truly matter.
That’s why I love coaching healthcare executives. It’s an opportunity to create space to think, grow, and become even more intentional about how you lead.
Sometimes the biggest leadership breakthroughs come from having the right conversation at the right time.
If you’re ready to invest in your leadership - or your organization’s leaders -I’d love to connect.

Great leaders know that performance isn’t just about pushing harder—it’s about knowing when to step back and recharge. Rest is not a luxury; it’s a strategic advantage. Here’s why:
1️⃣ Mental Clarity and Better Decision-Making
Leadership demands. Fatigue clouds thinking and impairs decision-making. Taking the weekend to reset allows you to step into the new week with fresh perspective and clarity.
2️⃣ Sustaining Long-Term Performance
Burnout doesn’t announce itself until it’s too late. Rest helps maintain energy levels and resilience for the challenges ahead. Weekend rest isn’t just recovery—it’s preparation.
3️⃣ Creativity and Innovation Thrive in Rest
Some of the best ideas come when you step away from work. When you rest, your subconscious continues to connect ideas and solve problems—often when you least expect it.
4️⃣ Modeling Healthy Habits for Your Team
As a leader, you set the tone for your team’s work-life balance. When you prioritize rest, it gives others permission to do the same, creating a healthier, more engaged workplace culture.
So, take the weekend to rest, reflect, and restore. Leadership is a marathon, not a sprint. Monday will thank you for it.

As I sign off for the night #Milton continued to attempt another sub 900mb run within ~24 hours of landfall. This storm has everything going for it as it continues to push out Cat5 storm surge with a guaranteed expanding wind field expected at landfall to push that surge into the coast. Not much here to prevent the inevitable and likely our second consecutive retired USA impact named storm. This has happened before in 1964 with Cleo and Dora. Thank you @philklotzbach
If you aren't taking the storm serious you need to ask yourself why. Focus on the best possible outcome for your family and friends with this inevitable horror that is about to take place in Florida. Time is running out.
It is usually easy to see but not easy to verbalize or define it. Focus hard on trying to translate things from a different lens. Make sure you are able to create an "output" of that translation. If you want to see something different - focus on exactly how different it will be.
