@jill_d35@ReadReadj Patients are warned and risks are fully explained. Severe depression also severely impairs cognitive function, and if not adequately treated, then is a strong risk factor for dementia
@FranArtHistory@AnnaFazack1 For the baby? I'm not sure what the evidence there is for birth adoptions being traumatic for the baby, not saying there isn't any, just that I don't know. Regardless, its clearly less traumatic for baby being adopted at birth than later on, after accumulated traumas etc
@FranArtHistory@AnnaFazack1 But yes, its a very complex topic, and there probably are occasions services get it wrong in either direction- letting mother keep the child when unsuitable, and adopting child when mum could've coped with support
@AnnaFazack1 Women don't have their babies taken away for no reason. The damage that poor parenting can cause is awful, and if anything, I'm continuously shocked by how little the state intervenes in situations of parents who are clearly doing a terrible job
@suzypuss I wonder if this would be acceptable to say about any other group? "There is no reason for the existence of black/chinese/gay people" would be seen correctly as bigoted in the extreme.
