Serious question: When our public healthcare system is collapsing from causes like understaffing…why is the Ontario government expanding private for-profit health care, when this will pull health workers away from the public system...and make understaffing even worse?
The fact that the Ontario government watched our public healthcare system collapse due to underfunding...but set aside public funding just so they could invest in private for-profit healthcare…tells you everything you need to know about their priorities.
“In Finland, the # of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.” https://t.co/EH3reri9lz

ON Conservatives forcing privatization by removing OHIP support for virtual visits when hospitals are overwhelmed. THIS is actually evil. https://t.co/xWntA7oy1M
If we know (and we know) that we'll eventually end up with a mask mandate (because exhortations don't work well enough), the earlier we do it in the curve, the better. So why not skip the "pretty please" steps and go right to what's worked in the past? 7/

4. Count days if you are recovering from COVID. Most people are contagious to ~10 days from symptom onset, despite feeling much better on day ~5. A rapid test will tell you if you are still contagious.
BUT YOU NEED TO SWAB THE *THROAT*. (Nose swabbing was before Omicron.)

I made another weird little comic thing, hopeful and a little bittersweet, about conservation after the apocalypse. A topic near and dear to my heart, Lord knows. (Technical notes in another thread, linked at the end.)
Some thoughts on the #HealthCareCrisis in Ontario (and across Canada).
23 years as an EM physician and I have never seen things as bad as they have been for the last several months...with no sign of letting up
We keep hearing how our healthcare system is collapsing (which it is). But that does nothing to improve our understanding.
Let’s use a hypothetical emergency department visit to highlight the disaster that is happening every day around the country.
