@Ishwariya13 This is amazing. A new person is not lost and a lot of time is saved in trying to figure out things in the lab (especially for an introvert).
@kshatresh X has already graduated and unfair to expect to come and do revisions. Y can get first co author. however, it has to be X et al work only. unfair expectations that the students should come back and finish revisions for the papers. what if the papers are under revision for 1 yr?
Nobody talks about chronic illness in academia.
The pain. The uncertainty. The breaks. The comebacks.
These women built labs, finished PhDs, and led research — while navigating cancer, autoimmune diseases, and mental health challenges. (1/2)
@mnwsth Unpopular opinion: We do have talent in India. people who choose to stay back and navigate the Indian system and academics. I think more preference should be given to them than to those who have to return just because they didnot have any option abroad.
Quitting your job to be free, always traveling, monetizing your hobbies , perfect curated life, these are the impractical lies spread by social media. Don’t fall for them
@abhijit_MLab The problem is not ChatGPT i guess. Even if some1 is taking help in writing, why cant they put in some effort to see what they have copied. probably read it again and give some personal touch to it. The generation is becoming lazy.
@abhijit_MLab I started my PhD when my daughter was 6 months old. and when she started kindergarten, she was helping other kids who were crying due to separation anxiety. When her teacher told me about this, I surely was a very proud mother. 💪🏾
I started going back to work when my child was about 4. The separation anxiety was such a torture for the first six months that my mother in law said I should have started working when she was 2-2.5 so that she could have got used to it (could not happen due to whatever reasons).
There was a day I was close to breaking down at work among other mothers who were telling my their versions of "This too shall pass". But a young intern told me how having a working mother made her independent and mature early in life and how she was able to take to studies by herself while her cousins needed their mothers to sit with them even after class 5.
In about 6-9 months, she settled to a rhythm. School started being of full day. So she would wait for ne only for say 2 hours in the evening. Now we fell into a rhythm.
I remember that girl today because I see my daughter handle things by herself before escalating. Other than Kannada and math, she literally studied other subjects by herself and aced the exams.
Children think for now. Parents think for the future of the child. Learn to be guilt free and think of your specific solutions rather than falling to fear mongering on Social Media. Maintain an eco system (parents/in laws, relatives). Spend time catching up with the child. Introduce them ways to spend time with themselves (reading, painting).
When you can provide better for the child after they grow up and leave them a generational something, they will cherish it.
Excited to share that my PhD paper on is now published in Willey Advanced Therapeutics! 🚀 We explore the potential of 3D bioprinting to repair nerve injuries and discuss challenges in peripheral nerve regeneration.
