Fred Matiang’i: I believe people who say police are working with goons, and I tell them that is because of the failure and dysfunctional nature of the security sector. I know Kanja is a very good policeman, in fact, probably one of the best police officers this country has ever had. I know Noordin. We worked together; he was the DPP at that time. These are people who, if left to work on their own, would deliver a safe, clear, and clean Kenya. Fred Matiang’i: There are things that I hear of, and I feel like I would collapse from anger and frustration. How can we go back to a time when we were saying police officers do not have fuel, and therefore, they cannot move around? The medical cover for the police was effective. I would cancel this one if I were president today and reinstate the one we had before so that officers feel well taken care of. There is over-ethnicization and over-politicization of deployment in the security sector.
