@techtechtechv1@idshsnsnsn@redf0undation One wonders where they would be without Islam. Drooling idiots, unable to act or to respond to anything? Palestinians would presumably be satisfied with their present condition. There need be no consideration of political-economy, class, etc when speaking of these strange people.
@MargBarAmerica Funny because this orientalist conception of Iran as being collectively motivated by religion, "sacrifice and martyrdom" is essentially the default rhetorical position of American neo-conservatives and Zionists.
@idshsnsnsn@redf0undation his statements on islam today were basically muddled and incoherent but from what I got his conception of things is based in a sort of orientalism that reduces all arab political activity to being motivated by islam
@CharlieKirkyy@DontNukeAnyone Do whatever you want but understand that your vulgar anti-imperialism and campism is opposed to any useful class-based politics and no one is really interested in the moral whining
@DontNukeAnyone@SakakiIsCute A plurality of Muslims are South Asian. Am I racist against them? Indonesians? Arabs? Maybe you think I am racist against all of these disparate people, but that would be because you are an orientalist whose conception of them has been reduced to religious identity.
@DontNukeAnyone@cloudofposting One could say that it is racist to reduce the motivations of the Iranian state to "they are Muslims" and to center this aspect of their identity (religion) to a degree that I have never seen you do in similar cases and that it betrays a foreign, orientalist POV.
@DontNukeAnyone@cloudofposting The actual argument, what actually has been said, is: converting to Islam is not strange because (1).some leftist militants have done it before, (2) Islam creates a feeling of unity, (3) Islam is "the only reason for [Iranian foreign policy]" (Lindsay Graham would agree).
@Mike_from_PA@_carlbeijer If a timeline does not exist, then I'm not sure how to assess the DSA based on what it 'supports' or does not, as this is irrelevant.
@fullslack_ On the other hand, it is true that there are those who have clearly no idea what should be done at all, who have no alternative even in theory, and who are possessed by an anti-social nihilism that can only compel them to criticize others (e.g. Bad Empanada).
@fullslack_ From the perspective of a communist this is at best neutral and at worst counterproductive to the achievement of the broader aims of the movement, so one should understand why they would think that this is not more useful than doing nothing.
