Today, across America, grief and anger are raw. A mother’s life was taken in Minneapolis, leaving a child without a parent, and the system that should protect has failed her. It is a wound on our country, one that echoes through every community.
And yet, in South Carolina,
The first time I encountered a sculpture of the Buddha’s coffin.
This Gandhāran relief, dated to the 1st-4th century CE (Kushana period), depicts the Buddha laid in his coffin and mourned by disciples.
Early Buddhist art often avoided showing the Buddha in human form. Gandhāra did the opposite: it portrayed him fully human, even in death. The grief of the monks, the quiet dignity of the coffin all carved in stone that is utterly beautiful. This is how Bimarus preserved legacy of Buddha before a man named Dharmapala from ceylon (now sri lanka) came there and created mass movement to restore baudhgaya site.
Greta flipped the sustainability debate by shifting blame from individuals forced to sip through soggy paper straws to the real culprit that was the industries torching the planet with emissions 🌏💨
That shift made sustainability mainstream, global, and impossible to ignore♻️
Happy Birthday, @GretaThunberg
A remarkable 6th-century AD Buddha statuette from North India was discovered in a Viking burial site on the island of Helgö, Sweden. This rare artifact highlights an unexpected cultural connection between distant civilizations over a millennium ago. The statuette, intricately crafted, reflects the exquisite artistry and religious devotion of early Indian artisans.
Its presence in a Viking grave suggests that long-distance trade networks and cultural exchanges were more extensive than previously imagined. Vikings, known primarily as seafarers and traders, often acquired exotic objects from far-off lands, indicating their curiosity and appreciation for foreign art.
This small Buddha statuette not only serves as a fascinating historical relic but also offers a glimpse into the complex interactions between Asia and Northern Europe during the early medieval period. Its discovery continues to intrigue historians, archaeologists, and art enthusiasts alike, emphasizing the surprising global connections of the ancient world.
