he took a deep breath and looked down at the floor for a brief second. looking back up into her eyes, he held her hands.

"i can't promise us being together will work out. but what i can and will promise is that our friendship will never be lost no matter what."

She froze a moment, eyes darting away before finding him again.

he was just about to be disappointed by her pulling away. until he saw the softness in her eyes that told him she wanted this.

The widow pulled away out of instinct, eyes searching his. Had she wanted this? Yes. Even if she did not admit to herself.

immediately after that sentence, he just went for it. his lips touched both her eyes, her cheek, and then her lips.

But even at her denial, she made no effort to move away from him.
