I am quoting this post along with my own thoughts in response to " If vtubing is not paying the bills, then get a job until it does"
Some people are unable to get a job, because of many factors. Either having any form of disability or life being extremely unkind to you.
Unfortunately, my reasoning for becoming a vtuber is not a happy one. I lost my job during the pandemic year and all staff got replaced before things opened back up again.
"We're sorry to inform you that we will not be interviewing you at this time."
"We suggest you find a more suitable position for your experience and qualifications"
"We regret to inform you we are unable to move forward with your application"
"Sorry" "Sorry" "Sorry"
"Unfortunately"
And then listen to that for 3 years while struggling to make a living. I've been a full-time streamer for 6 years, it was never a hobby for me but a grind to keep living. Always not getting accepted for work because the "overqualified and educated" excuse, I'm extremely experienced but instead of wanting to pay someone who would do a good job, employers didn't hire me because they're worried applicants like me might leave or want promotions quicker. It's real, and it's awful. I kept trying for so long and just got used to hearing the same thing, I was streaming to stay afloat but still didn't give up on applying. Then the questions started "Why haven't you worked in 3 years?" It started to look bad. Eventually, I gave up applications all together and locked into growing as a streamer.
My path is not a happy one, but it got better. I know others have struggled or are still struggling too. Sometimes you don't know how life will end up and it might turn out way different than you had planned. I still struggle with wondering if I'll be okay if I just continue streaming, yeah, it's a really scary occupation to rely on. I'm really thankful for my community and I won't take their kindness for granted. I have 4 years remaining before I reconsider what I'm doing with my life, but thank you everyone for letting me experience a brighter path and changing my life.
