In the wake of the Bondi terror attack, politicians are attempting to shift the conversation toward stricter gun control measures in a country that already has some of the world’s strictest gun restrictions. This will do nothing but provide performative window dressing and a convenient scapegoat for the rise of unchecked extremism in our communities.

The form of evil Islamic jihad we saw in Bondi is not dependent on any specific weapon. In the absence of guns, these terrorists will employ knives, vehicles, improvised explosives, or even aircraft to carry out massacres. There is a reason we have diversity bollards around major cities in the West.

Unless and until leaders get serious about the underlying ideological extremism that motivates terrorists to target innocent civilians, and implement measures to protect our borders from those who oppose the West, no amount of gun control legislation will prevent another attack.
