🇺🇦 He walked from Belgorod to Kharkiv at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in order to fight against the Russians.

I'd like to tell you the story of Dmytro, whose callsign is "Hunt." He is an ethnic Ukrainian with a Russian passport who lived in Russia and enjoyed a comfortable life.

He worked as a head chef at a restaurant in Chelyabinsk. But after February 24, everything changed dramatically.

By chance, he was the only member of his family born in Russia — specifically in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. That's where his callsign, "Hunt," comes from.

He finished school there and was later sent to study at a university in Dnipro, Ukraine.

From 2007 to 2016, he lived and studied there, becoming involved in the football fan community surrounding FC Dnipro.

He also took part in the Revolution of Dignity, but due to various circumstances, he was forced to return to Russia.

When he learned about the full-scale invasion, he immediately started looking for a way to get to Kharkiv.

At that time, the only option was to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border on foot — a journey of approximately 150 kilometers.

After reaching the city, he wanted to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine as quickly as possible.

But as you can imagine, carrying a Russian passport made that extremely risky. At the time, security forces were actively searching for saboteurs throughout the city.

After several attempts, he finally succeeded — though not without difficulties.

His first unit was Kraken, followed later by the 3rd Assault Brigade. Yet once again, his Russian citizenship created bureaucratic problems.

People constantly told him:

"Why don't you just join the Russian Volunteer Corps?"

But he refused outright.

Eventually, however, he made that difficult step because circumstances left him little choice. Even so, he considered — and still considers — himself a Ukrainian nationalist, and he never wanted to serve side by side with Russians.

He took part in the battles for Bakhmut and the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant.

In total, he has participated in 20 assault operations, fighting with dedication and courage. He suffered gunshot wounds, including a sniper wound in Bakhmut that he survived by a miracle, and spent time recovering in hospital.

Today, his greatest wish is to obtain Ukrainian citizenship and never return to Russia again. 🇺🇦
