@vdaaaal I like when ppl tell me about themselves so I can judge whether or not to give them the time of day. I doubt that this is either "not sane" or even rare.
Now it makes more sense why Zoro knocked Sanji out in Thriller Bark.
It wasn't just about Sanji trying to take Zoro's place. He couldn't accept his reason for sacrificing himself.
Sanji tells Zoro he still has a dream to achieve and says they can just find another cook. He wants to protect his crew and is loyal to Luffy, but he does so believing his own life and dreams matter less than everyone else's.
Zoro is also willing to die for Luffy but his sacrifice comes from the responsibility and loyalty he feels towards his captain. When he fails to protect Luffy from Kuma he takes responsibility for it and offers his own life in exchange for Luffy's. His self demanding pushes him to carry that burden without making excuses because he believes it's his responsibility.
Zoro can be incredibly hard on himself but he won't accept Sanji devaluing his own life to justify his sacrifice.
Little details like this show the kind of bond they share. They may argue all the time but they understand and respect each other.

Genderqueerness isn't too far of a reach, to be honest. But the label isn't something he would necessarily need to affirm or "come out". The Okama way is about freedom and not labels (hence the strong vocabulary used in previous twt)
The self hate comes from being a man and associating with his family their violence and lack of humanity. Iva taught him he could express himself however he wanted despite being a man and it's already an established fact in the story. Him being gay/bi/trans would make no sense.

if Oda was brave, next chapter would be Sanji coming out. the setup is PHENOMENAL for a queer character. the self-hate, the over-the-top compensation with how he treats women, his whole journey in Kamabakka, Ivankov being his mentor......... it's all there. do it.
I can tell why the interaction failed.
first of all, you wanted to converse but all you did is invited the other person to be interested in you and ask question.
It's jarring and like, YOU wanted to converse not them. It's weird when you make it about yourself so right away.
