@strawkittyberry It's very funny seeting this in response to someone who is constantly playing the "but your ship is also problematic!" In arguments about their unpopular OTP.
@strawkittyberry Depends what fanbase you are talking about. I feel like dudebros would like a lot of the male characters that get called weak or annoying if they were a cute girl, but it wouldn't play as well with the female fanbase.
@strawkittyberry It's so easy to just... not read it if it bothers you. (It me. I was interested in the premise and pretty art, but shota is Not My Thing, so I pretty quickly noped out)
@strawkittyberry That's a fair enough attitude (I'm vegetarian instead of vegan, but I don't like the taste of eggs so I only eat them if stuff where they can't be tasted. Like baking)
@strawkittyberry My dentist consistently compliments my outfits. I am not sure if that's saying something good about my style, or about the other people she sees.
@strawkittyberry Some people earn themselves fans through having a good take on a social issue once, and decide to make a career out of telling people their opinions on everything.
@strawkittyberry I don't think the incest ships would get as far in the Western audience
That said, the most hated ship will be the one competing with the most popular ship.
@strawkittyberry Realistically, I think my impression came from the conflict between writers leaning into the ship tease, and actors who were aggressively No Homo. (I never understood the RPF tinhats, because neither of them ever seemed comfortable with gay stuff that wasn't a joke)
@strawkittyberry See, I remember hearing that, but when I actually watched some early seasons episodes, the main vibe I got was that no one involved with production understood how relationships worked and so it all came off as awkward and weird.
@strawkittyberry@touchreceptors Funny how far that goes back. I've seen quotes from back in the 1800s at least concerned about women reading (gasp) fiction instead of moral religious stories.
@touchreceptors@strawkittyberry Iirc Gelphie has always been the big ship in fandom, at least for the musical.
(Kudos to Bailey for making me actually care about Fiyero for the first time ever)
