@saintstefon26@othockeytalk@awakentrogdor I don't particularly think coop was the most deserving this year (I'd lean muse and think ruff had a solid case), but when it comes to what a coach actually has to do on a daily basis, idk if there's been a season he was as tested as this one
@saintstefon26@othockeytalk@awakentrogdor regardless of total days lost to injury, the lightning had an insane number of individual IR stints amongst major skaters which means cooper had to come up with entirely new lines every week while also having his top 4 d-men out the entire first half of the season
@JFreshHockey@Schopptalk as a bolts fan I'm not convinced he's the most deserving this season, but people are seriously underrating the amount of individual IR stints they had and how he was forced to juggle lines on a weekly basis, felt like someone major going down and coming back every week
@corncob277@TimMiller94@TBLightning yeah I don't mean to imply I think ruff or muse are undeserving by any means, but I see a lot of people calling it a lifetime achievement award when I think a lot of people are underestimating the adversity this year's bolts faced because they're used to Cooper's miracles
@JFreshHockey@L69fs missed? no. but a team that sleepwalks through the reg season at <50% of their talent level shouldn't get rewarded with b2b series against teams that would've had fire sales in the east
@TimMiller94@corncob277@TBLightning if you want to argue in bad faith that's fine, but as much as it sucks having top guys out, it sucks more when you have 3 guys out and 3 guys coming back in every two weeks. ruff isn't undeserving and maybe he deserves it more, but op asked for an argument in favor of cooper
@TimMiller94@corncob277@TBLightning from a coach's pov, missing 100 games lost between 2 players is in some ways easier to actively manage than 100 games lost across 10 players because you have stability in the lines even if your best players aren't out there
@corncob277@TBLightning easier yes, but having a different top 9 skater getting injured every week and playing half the season with your top 4 D injured is adversity the team hasn't faced before, and mixing lines to ensure the team stays competitive is what a coach actually does
@corncob277@TBLightning cooper is leading an aging tbl team whose window you would have expected to have closed years ago while almost every skater missed time once if not twice this year, leading to an unholy amount of line shuffles that he steered the team through
@corncob277@TBLightning ruff is leading a young and talented buffalo team with 14 years of draft and trade capital that was relatively unbothered by injuries, people talk about him breaking the drought like it wasn't just overwhelming incompetence by his priors 1/2
