The Australian Govt has just published a policy paper saying that ALL HCPs should be able to practice at top of scope ie. like a doctor, and be able to refer, order any test and prescribe any drug. With access to the SAME fee for service.

I am delighted to advise I have accepted a new job. My current contract ends December 31st 2024. From January 1st 2025 I will be the Head of the Discipline of Medicine at the University of Newcastle Medical School, and will renew my Distinguished Laureate Professor position.
First time working with a 1st-year fellow. I had to issue my now-standard warning: don't dismiss/deflect #consults on first contact. Nowadays, many/most of the folks calling you have not had internal medicine or residency training, and they don't even know what the question is
@AlboMP Buddy, protect them from building new fossil fuel plants. Protect them from an economy ruined by housing investors and vampire capitalists. Protect them from the hatred that cycles when you support genocide. Protect them from MSM dribble. I'll keep em safe from YouTube.
This week Ganesh and I gave evidence about the report we had written for the @covidinquiryuk. Our report can be found at https://t.co/g0viGYE1ee
For those that won't read a >100 page report (you should!), I thought I'd highlight some of our lessons learned/recommendations. 1/6
Been listening to more of the @covidinquiryuk@KathyRowan101 gave incredibly useful evidence
The data that came out of @ICNARC was invaluable in exploring
-the narrative of the pandemic waves
-health inequalities (the first location to highlight the high rate of non- white ethnicities in ICU with COVID)
-the changing demographies of patients through the pandemic
Her evidence is brave enough to highlight the (necessary) triage that took place during the peaks of activity & to discuss whether this was
-clinical
-conscious or unconscious
-population based
The weekly ICNARC reports throughout 2020-21 were a huge source of knowledge & a Herculean effort
Really pleased to see both Prof Rowan & @charlot_summers crediting the ICNARC data clerks without whom our understanding of UK ICU in general & specifically in the pandemic would be very much the poorer
Second part of her evidence here

Joe Biden did something today that the autocrats, dictators, and the rest of the oppressive leaders in the world would never do: he put country over party and power.
Donald Trump tried to violently overthrow an election.
Biden stepped aside to save one from a future tyrant.
Australia has been sound on the thorny issue of workforce substitution until very recently.
Now it seems Queensland wants to experiment with PAs!
Let's have a quick canter through the proposal. 🧵

So excited to announce our upcoming case-based critical care paramedicine textbook. The authors are a mixture of paramedics, docs & nurses; clinicians & scientists from all over the world. We hope that CCPs & CCP students around the globe will find this to be a go-to text 🤓🚑🚁
I will be producing a series of short video tutorials on clinically important concepts of respiratory mechanics that I feel are not universally known, but are absolutely essential. More to come.
Memories from the 7th Neurointensive Care Summer School at @unimib. Outstanding faculty. Participants from 30 countries! Great interaction. 5 parallel Hands on session. A lot of fun while learning
I don’t think Rob Mac Sweeney gets enough plaudits for @CritCareReviews - his visionary approach to presenting, discussing, and disseminating new knowledge from critical care trials is ann incredible gift to humankind. Thanks Rob! #ccr24
🧠 🩸 Great discussions this morning @unimib Neurocritical care summer school ☀️ on ICH management with Claude Hemphill @UCSF 😊
