Everyone's mad about AI "draining" our water. Seven in ten Americans oppose data centers, with water use cited as a top concern, as per @Gallup

Let's look at the numbers. All U.S. data centers combined: 228 billion gallons/year.

At the same time, residential lawns: 2,900. Showers: 1,700. Toilets: 1,300. Leaking pipes (literally water we just lose): 900. Even golf courses beat data centers at 531 billion.

Every ChatGPT query wasting water take is arguing about a rounding error while we pour 12x more onto grass.

Still though, local water stress near specific data centers is a real issue worth solving. But somehow that's not what the national panic is about.

Anyone knows of any good benchmarks for AI proofreading/writing?

There are hundreds of benchmark out there testing AI models on coding/solving math/etc.

Not so much for writing which actually accounts for like 40% of work-related requests as per OpenAI.

@Da7_Tech The sneaky rerouting is the part that would kill it for me too. Charge whatever you want for the top model, but switching what I'm running mid-task without asking is a surprise mechanic I didn't sign up for.

Meaning anyone can download K3, run it anywhere, modify it, build on it.

Last time a Chinese lab did this at scale, it was DeepSeek. It knocked $600B off Nvidia in a day.

@aashatwt As a full time digital nomad I travel with 2 laptops, one’s an Air (1kg) and the other’s a 16” Zephyrus (Windows powerhouse, ~2.5 kg).

Add the chargers, mouse and stuff - and you have a 4+ kg laptop bag. That is on top of a ~8 kg backpack AND a ~20 kg suitcase. Such is life.
