19 years ago I was fired from my job. No medical insurance for my young kids, only 2 weeks severance and almost bankrupt. With fear in my heart I jumped into the ocean New Year’s Day and said no longer would I live in fear. No longer would it control me. I would trust instead.
What’s amazing about teachers is that they still show up & shine even when they don’t feel fully supported.
Admin, imagine what can be accomplished & the culture created when teachers feel fully supported, encouraged, & appreciated. Make this the goal for 2019-20 school year.
A Gallup poll showed that of ALL professions, TEACHERS were least likely to say their opinion counts & least likely to say that their supervisors create an open & sharing environment. We have to do better in engaging, supporting, & valuing our teachers & their expertise.
Teachers love Admin who:
1) Go above & beyond for their staff
2) Do whatever is needed even small tasks
3) Who are present: in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, lunchroom
4) Value Teachers time (planning, meetings, after school)
5) Support, encourage and inspire them
