Shravan, 10, from Alappuzha, Kerala, was cycling near home when a street dog attacked. He fell, the dog ran off, and he got a small thigh scratch, which the boy perhaps didn't think was important, so he didn’t tell his family.

A couple of weeks later, last month, he developed rabies symptoms. It was then that his friend informed his parents about the incident. Shravan was hospitalized but succumbed to the illness.

India is endemic for rabies and accounts for 36% of the world’s rabies deaths, which amounts to 18,000 to 20,000 annually. Once acquired, Rabies is 100% fatal.

That's why you shouldn't ignore any kind of dog attack. Sensitize your kids that even a minor scratch from dogs, cats, monkeys, or any wild animal should be reported. Not just ARV, but anti-rabies immunoglobulin is also vital in many cases. However, let your doctor decide what's best for you.

As far as broader initiatives to control rabies are concerned, I don't think any govt is interested or cares, especially when it's not even remotely an election issue. So, there's no point in expecting anything to happen. Take due precautions and report any violent contact.

Take the example of Nikita Singhania, who, despite working at Accenture and being financially independent, demanded maintenance and alimony from Atul Subhash!

Laws designed to genuinely protect women from exploitation in marriage—particularly those who are dependent—are being twisted into tools for extortion. Where is “women empowerment” in such cases? What we see here is hypocrisy and exploitation, not empowerment.
