@m_druker Interesting question. Using some common figures: a bus costs 550k usd lasts 12 years, runs 65k km per year. Approx $1/km. Does maybe 25km/hr, so $25/hr. Operator is $20/hr. Diesel would be 10L, or $13.
EV would be cheaper, but driver cost would dominate.
@Carnage4Life That's not exactly it. Tesla has always had future achievements priced in ("overvalued"). They were valued at IPO as if they had already delivered the model s, they were valued in 2015 as if they had already delivered the model 3, and until now as if they had delivered FSD, etc.
@J2dubyas @fabolange @wwwojtekk 1. GiveSendGo contributions were leaked, majority funding is foreign.
2. Organizers called for firing of PM and for them to form a coalition. They "retracted" when they found out that's actually insane.
3. Attempted murder charges were laid yesterday at a border protest.
@cstross@paulg Synthetic fuels will probably make high end flying carbon neutral by then. NY to London flight emits about 1 ton of carbon, 2 for return trip. Even at wildly expensive prices $100-200/ton, that's not a huge markup for a flight. Airlines like RyanAir are the ones that can't deal.
@Sofonisbe @dmtrubman@yhdistyminen Right, but climate change is caused by emitting CO2 in the air, which was previously locked in solid form. It is not caused by "taking up space".
@DJSnM you mentioned in one of your videos that we don't have the tech do make a giant, space-based optical interferometer telescope. Why not? Is the wavelength of light too small and tolerances too fine compared to radio telescope arrays?
@nntaleb Don't you have a Tesla? If your car is not emitting CO2, why does it matter how many you have, or how far you drive? You can have a high standard of living, and you don't have to emit carbon to achieve it. But we have to work to make it happen.
@joshu Kill the dishwasher. Put a robotic arm next to the sink. The arm is controlled by a remote worker using an Oculus Quest. The remote worker washes the dishes and puts them on the drying rack using the arm and the kitchen is otherwise the same.
@vgr Ie, set up a production line - each mirror segment is its own flat-pack satellite with its own thrusters etc. SpaceX claims they can get stuff to LEO for like $10/kg.
@ramez There's not much room for cost of the pump itself, it's a well developed, mature, efficient tech. Ground loops have to be more automated, less bespoke, costing no more than $2000-3000 for a regular house.
