How do trains climb steep mountain tracks without rolling backward? Sometimes, a powerful helper locomotive called a banker engine does the trick!

On steep railway gradients, the main locomotive may need extra pulling force to move a heavy train uphill. A banker engine provides additional tractive effort by pushing the train from behind, helping it climb the slope. Both locomotives work together, while the grip between the wheels and rails determines how much force they can transfer without slipping.
