A heartbreaking appeal from schoolchildren of Timri Tok, Khankari Gunt village in Almora’s Bhaisiyachhana block is gaining attention on social media.

The children say they walk nearly 14 km every day to attend school, spending hours just getting there and back. For years, villagers have been demanding a 7-km road from Kasan Band to Timri, but despite surveys, the road remains a distant promise.

More than 15 students reportedly make this journey every day, some leaving home before sunrise.

In 2026, children in Uttarakhand shouldn’t have to spend their childhood walking for hours just to reach a classroom.

#Horrific Yesterday in Siwan, Bihar, police reportedly used firearms against protesting students. Around 10 rounds were allegedly fired from AK-47 rifles, leaving three students with bullet injuries. They are currently in critical condition and undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital.

Protesters must never be met with bullets. Those responsible must be held accountable through an independent and transparent investigation and strict action should be taken against anyone found to have violated the law. In a democracy, dissent cannot be answered with gunfire.
