Congratulations to @raj_psyc for winning the Lifetime Achievement Award for Rehabilitation & Social Psychiatry 2023! Your Alma Mater @NIMHANS_BLR is proud of you!
@RANZCP Recovering from trauma requires being heard and validated. All therapists know the power of this. What First Peoples are asking is to be heard and considered. Nothing more. All arguments to the contrary are lies and will perpetuate trauma.
A simple explainer on #TheVoice referendum I made to help me have conversations with loved ones - sharing here in case it’s helpful for anyone else
Also, I highly recommend Noel Pearson’s NPC address to learn more. Powerful and poetic words.🙏🏾❤️#yes23

@ABSStats “These statistics are deeply concerning and highlight the pressing need for federal, state & territory governments to work with clinicians at the frontlines to create a comprehensive, long-term workforce planning and resourcing strategy and enact system-wide reform” @DrAsthaTomar
@ABSStats@DrAsthaTomar “Federal, state and territory governments must invest in the training and recruitment of more psychiatrists to ensure that our youth and vulnerable populations have access to safe and high-quality #mentalhealthcare that is timely and effective” @DrAsthaTomar
@ABSStats@DrAsthaTomar We are calling for immediate action to combat Australia’s severe psychiatry workforce shortage to help meet the rising demand for mental health services in our community. Read the full #RANZCPmedia release here: https://t.co/kCqDEGZ3qV
So impressed with how much NZ/Aotearoa respects to its indigenous people with treaty, pride & integration of Māori language in everyday life. We are so divided on this in Australia. It’s so disappointing to read the social & mainstream media hostile to First Nations people
We certainly need single-sex aged care facilities with every woman given the choice about the type of accommodation they want. Likewise women’s only mental health facilities. All women, young & old, deserve to be safe from sexual assault 24/7. That includes when in care
Well said @QuentinDempster As Barry Jones suggested yesterday in the Saturday Paper, it is crucial for the 96% non-indigenous to support the 4% indigenous in advocacy, particularly in challenging the tiny minority of indigenous leaders campaigning for a denialist No vote.
@Mickholloways@psychwrite@MaryAnneThomas@ACMHN Absolutely Mick. I would hope there are projects for Nurses & Allied Health, as the needs and ways to support might be different.
I believe this is the first project specifically for doctors in public system. We do need to see workforce as a whole and its separate parts.
@EoinKillackey What a coincidence! Same date, 23 years ago walked through the gates of Auckland Airport and so thankful for every opportunity which has come my way. Love Melbourne which is home now but no place like Delhi. 💖
@HiranThabrew "Demand will continue to grow but the system isn’t keeping up. Ahead of the election next month, we need the @NZNationalParty, but equally all parties, to consider urgent, concrete reform and action, ensuring the mental health care and addiction system can meet the growing needs"
Dr @HiranThabrew, Chair of the RANZCP Tu Te Akaaka Roa, New Zealand National Committee, said, “We are experiencing a mental health crisis and New Zealanders cannot be given enough help, or the right help, in a system that’s operating at crisis-point"
