i know that artists need money but it is a bit .. upsetting to be a client and still waiting for a comm and watching an artist open comms again and again and again, please make sure you complete those comms you accepted first and dont overload yourself
Hey artists, you may hate me but:
You miss a hard deadline? You offer a full refund
You've been unmotivated and burnt out for months? You offer a full refund
You broke an arm? You offer a full refund
Shit can happen, of course, and it's not your fault. But that's also part of handling a business, which you are doing by accepting comms. You should set your prices and schedule accordingly to just eat the cost when shit does happen.
IT SUCKS, I KNOW. But what's the alternative? Throwing all your problems to your unrelated client? So they get all the consequences, and you get none? We all know no one would react this way if a client said "sorry my cat is sick I'll pay you next year!"
If you want a steady income and schedule from your art to make it your job, trust me this is the WORSE way to do it. Be professional and hold yourself accountable.
i think one thing that some artists are not ready to hear is that they have horrible business practices and should not be doing commissions, despite how good their art may be
