Join us for a Three-Day Hybrid Workshop on Realist Evaluation for Health Policy and Program Evaluation organized by the Institute of Public Health Bengaluru (IPH).

Dates: July 3-5, 2024
Venue: Bangalore, India, with options for both in-person and virtual participation

Realist Evaluation approach seeks to explain how and why complex interventions work (or don’t work) in particular contexts. This methodology is well suited to tackle evaluations of complex interventions and focuses on generative mechanisms in evaluating health policies and systems interventions. By focusing on the underlying mechanisms realist evaluation provides deep insights into the effectiveness of public health interventions, informing better policy decisions and practice.

Who Should Attend:
This workshop is designed for public health professionals, researchers, postgraduates, and PhD students with an interest in health policy and systems research and evaluation. Participants should have a basic understanding of public health concepts and research methodologies. Those currently exploring realist methods or applying them in their research are encouraged to participate to get hands-on experience of application of this methodology.

Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the principles and practices of Realist Evaluation.
- Develop skills to design and conduct realist evaluations in health policy and systems research.
- analyze and interpret data using a realist approach.
- Enhance capacity to apply realist evaluation findings to improve health policy and practice.

The mission was to provide students with the resources and facilities they need to thrive. Through activities like tree planting, classroom painting, and the distribution of stationary, we're creating vibrant, eco-friendly spaces that inspire young minds.

An eventful day @iphindia on 6 Jun with distinguished guests visiting us in the Bengaluru office @TMirzoev from @LSHTM and @AnnaSchurmann2 – staff engaged in discussion around health policy systems research and the current global environment around HPSR – opportunities and challenges.
In the afternoon, a group of students from @UniCanberra currently on a study tour visited us with IPH Adjunct faculty @sunilgeorge78 and Dr. Cathy Knight-Agarwal. We had an interactive and thought provoking talk by @veenashatrugna on topics of #nutrition #policy #vulnerability – discussions that continued in the corridors of IPH for days afterward.

On this #WorldNoTobaccoDay (May 31), let us all reaffirm our commitment to work together towards saving lives from harms of tobacco use. Tobacco, used in any form, is hazardous to health causing over 13 lakh adult deaths and several diseases a year in India.
The theme for this World No Tobacco Day by the World Health Organization is “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference”. Children and youth are vulnerable groups that are targeted by tobacco industry through a range of products, misleading claims and targeted marketing and sale strategies. Governments in India have launched several initiatives including the National Tobacco Control Program and the Tobacco Free Educational Institution Guidelines to protect youth from tobacco harms. A week ago, a workshop on awareness on our Constitution titled, “Tiliyona Baa Namma Samvidhaanava”, was held at BR Hills in Chamarajanagar for the staff members, collaborators and partners of @iphindia. The workshop used group work and dialogue to build awareness on rights and responsibilities and was inaugurated by collaborators from the Soliga Adivasi Sangha and partner NGOs.
