Five years ago I mustered up enough courage to put pen to paper and write about a Black from Alabama with ancestral hoodoo magick who goes to a magical HBCU.

First it was a TV script, and it was rejected by so many networks and studios and TV writing jobs. Then I decided to turn it into a book series and it hit the NYT bestsellers list. Appeared on national television and now we’re working on a TV adaptation.

Rejection is not only protection. It’s re-direction as well.
