People with untreated mental illness are 16 times more likely to be killed by law enforcement. We must confront the mental health crisis in our community with a nonviolent approach.
Allow me to reintroduce myself.
I am a civil rights lawyer. I’ve spent my career fighting for families affected by an unjust police system.
I have seen the injustice of mass incarceration in my own family.
Now I’m running for Attorney General to bring justice to Texas.
Texas mayors, county judges, and school boards do not work for @GregAbbott_TX. So, they're defying - not disobeying - him.
They all have the same boss: Texans.

And I oppose quoting my father to facilitate that fear and to usher in that banning.
July was the hottest month EVER recorded on Earth. I'm growing tired of many people – especially my Republican friends – asking, “how can we afford to act on climate change?” The real question is: how can we afford NOT to?
I’ve seen calls for cluster hires of Black faculty - (which is great b/c community is so important)
BUT I want to know how these institutions created more equitable environments BEFORE bringing them in?
Don’t bring Black people into toxic environments & expect them to fix it!👏🏾
Billionaires control nearly a third of all American wealth and pay a lower tax rate than pretty much everyone else
Pretty weird hearing politicians saying we can't afford stuff without including this minor detail
Most police sign up to fight crime.
Under existing policies, poverty is a crime, addiction is a crime, blackness is a crime, a mental health crisis is a crime.
No wonder police struggle between doing what’s right and doing their job.
The next time you hear Republicans in the House talk about law and order, remember that 190 of them voted against this investigatory committee into the deadly attack on the Capitol.
