Scottish Citizens Army stands with Julie Keegan, Angus McLean and every family failed by maternity and neonatal care in Scotland.

Mason Scott McLean was three days old.

He died in April 2023 after staff at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital failed to recognise how sick he was.

He had sepsis.

His temperature was recorded as 35°C when it was so low it could not be measured.

Records were incomplete.

Tests that would have shown a life-threatening infection were missed.

Equipment to warm a hypothermic baby was not properly sourced.

Julie is an ICU nurse.

She knew her son was deteriorating.

She was not listened to.

She has said that if one person had done their job correctly, Mason would still be alive.

A review that only looks forward is not enough.

Families who have already buried their babies deserve a review that examines what went wrong, names the patterns, and stops colleagues investigating their own colleagues.
